“It all began with my grandparents Joe & Lucy Ono. Joe worked the railroad graveyard shift and went straight to the cafe to prep for opening, and Lucy would always start the day at 6am for breakfast. Hardworking and earnest, ready to serve their community one plate at a time.
The Brown Mug Cafe’s namesake started in the late 1890’s as a saloon, up until it became a Chinese restaurant owned by Henry Woo until 1958. It was then purchased by the Ono’s and ran successfully until 1982, when my parents Joe and Josephine bought the restaurant and owned it until 2021.
Myself and my husband, Luini Vargas are 3rd generation heirs and the current owners of the Brown Mug Cafe. With big shoes to fill, we strive to serve our community just like my family did. Working hard is what we do!”
